What is the Understanding Dad™ program?

A unique program that helps moms improve the relationships they have with fathers, for the benefit of their children.

Understanding Dad™ is a program designed to increase mothers’ awareness of the vital role fathers play in the lives of their children. It encourages moms to reflect on their own developmental histories and how these experiences influence their relationships with the dads of their children. The program also equips moms with effective communication skills aimed at fostering a positive and cooperative partnership with fathers, including in co-parenting arrangements when parents are no longer together.

At times, mothers may unintentionally engage in gatekeeping behaviors—actions that make it harder for dads to be involved. Because children thrive when fathers are actively engaged, Understanding Dad™ gives moms practical tools to reduce these barriers and create healthier patterns of interaction. By supporting positive co-parenting, the program not only strengthens mother–father relationships but also promotes better outcomes for children.
